Coaching funding from Badminton England

Discover Badminton identifies the importance of increasing capacity and capability to support the growth of grass roots badminton. I am pleased, therefore, to let you know that Badminton England has allocated some of our funding towards coach bursaries to support those looking to take a Level 1 course or progress to Level 2. You are invited to identify suitable coaches for these bursaries and to promote their availability across your own networks.

Those interested in a coach education bursary will need to complete an application form (which is attached) and have paid for the course by 31 March 2018. Applicants will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria outlined on the form – all applications will be assessed by the Education and Training Team at Badminton England. Only those that meet the criteria will be accepted. We particularly welcome applications from female coaches.

Details of planned coaching courses can be found at

If you need any help with the process or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact your local relationship manager (please see attachment for their details).

Unfortunately, we have a limited pot of funding, so eligible applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis and once the funding has been utilised, we will not be able to process any more applications in this financial year. We are hoping to be able offer counties the opportunity to apply for funding across a number of areas during the 2018-19 financial year and will contact you about this in the New Year.

Ways to Play

Badminton England Premier Clubs are the equivalent to Sport England Clubmark.

Premier Clubs have regular assessments to ensure that they are ‘fit for purpose’.

All the Coaches at Premier Clubs should have Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) accreditation and be Members of the Badminton England Coaching Register.

As well as group coaching (clubs, schools, performance centres etc.), coaches can also provide individual coaching.

We plan to compile a “Coaches list” over the coming few months to help advertise the skills available in your area.

(This list will only contain those coaches who have agreed for their details to be published on this website)

In the meantime if you require information please contact Mike O’Keeffe

Please note that Kent Badminton Limited does not endorse coaches and you should make sure yourself, that the coach you approach is a current Member of the Badminton England Coaching Register (will have Coaching Register Cards Part A & B) and has the necessary Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) accreditation.

If you wish to have your individual details published on the Kent Badminton website, please let Mike O’Keeffe know. We need your permission (under data protection) before we can add you to the list.

We will need an email with your postcode, coaching grade, phone number (only one – home or mobile), email address and short comment. (e.g. adults only, juniors only, disabled coaching)
